As more spirits get added, having element combinations is going to become less and less of a selling point as more and more element combos come into play. When every card has someone's elements, it's hard to say something is a good card on elements alone, especially if it costs energy. I'll go to bat for Mawbeasts because it's actually a decent card for Lightning's Swift Strike on its own merits, but Uncanny Melting isn't even a good card for River (River really really wants to avoid taking blight on wetlands in the first place) and there are plenty of water cards with no sun that I'll consider over it.

Ha, I read this after just flagging mawbeasts as a card I didn't like till I got it on Lightning.

I think Elements are still going to maintain their place as a selling point for cards for a variety of factors:

1 - Opposing elements (air/earth) (water/fire) (sun/moon) (animal/plant) are rarer, therefore when desired the cards with opposing elements are sought after more for their weird elemental spread alone.

2 - Cards with 4 elements are always going to get the "it's good for the elements alone!" defense. Especially when they're cheap or free.

No matter what combos you're looking for, if it has 4, odds are it's got something you need.
