Adding to the discussion 5 years later... I like the tactical depth of upgrade timing. There is a constant cost benefit analysis to it that really garners thought. Do you take the upgrade early while everyone is focusing in their high priority items? Do you wait until later in the round when people are running slim on meeples?Sometimes I like to place a meeple on the unupgraded side so that when I do upgrade, I either get next shot at the benefit or two of my opponents meeples.
