If your opponent decides to play Trains as if it’s Dominion is taking a big risk if the cards don’t align for a big money strategy. I’ve beaten multiple players who tried, and lost when I went for the yellow cards.
In Trains: Coastal Tides the yellow cards reward points for stuff you’ve built on the board. Mix some of those cards in and nobody will even consider the Dominion way of playing.
On the other hand, if house ruling works for you and you’re having fun, why not. Trains remains a great game in my book.
