Usually you have several turns to prepare for an invading army unless its very late game where cities can be much closer together. Bad rolls happen, but to say this game is just a RNG fest is a bit lazy when there is a lot of strategic choices in this game.
Totally agree with this statement, actually multiple dice checks, altered dices, and tactic cards mitigates pretty well the randomness in the combat outcomes.
