I usually play against max level adversaries and found serpent, while still viable, to struggle more than most. France exposes serpent early with the extra builds and additional loss condition, the other adversaries do not give serpents problems until their higher levels:
Serpent is great against Sweden until the extra damage rips through elemental aegis
Serpent is great against England until they start requiring the 5 fear per player per turn. That extra double build almost feels like an additional loss condition.
.
Playing true solo with serpent vs England these days, and I’m already starting to feel the pressure at 4(7) difficulty. Double build throughout the game is absolutely brutal. I feel like getting good card draws is crucial. The main issue I think is that serpent takes a good while to ramp up, and higher level adversary have a power curve that’s not easy to catch up to. Weirdly enough, I felt difficulty 3(6) England was significantly easier, compared to 4(7).
