If you are purely looking for a game with table presence, I still think Catan 3D is the better option. It seems that you already own CoB, so unless you want the expansions, you are now getting a new game by buying Catan 3D. Catan is also a solid game in its on right, and I find that the 3D version is a great way to introduce people to gaming. If you want to use it for such a purpose, it’s a solid choice.
Though, I am still holding out hope that AW will add more 3D components to the campaign. If so, it could influence such a choice.
Looking at some of your favorite games, you seem to lean toward heavier games and it seems that you commented that your wife loves CoB. So if you are looking purely from a “which game would I enjoy more” point of view, it seems that CoB is a no brainer.
Personally, I have Catan 3D and am backing CoB. . . . So, there is always the option for both?
You should be able to get Catan 3D later on since they are releasing a 3D expansion for it. I imagine that they will attempt to keep the base game in print while the expansion is offered. Though, that is just a guess.
I heard the expansion for Catan 3D cost more than the base game...
