* - Non-Awakened/Non-Corrupted (NANC): the starting condition for a Sovereign. At this point he is effectively a Leader for his faction, which means he is free to move with an army of his faction using an army die, or a character die (either due to his presence, or that of another leader/character in the army). He must always be in the presence of that army; he cannot move alone, and if his army (or all his own nation's units with a combined army) is destroyed, he will be too. However, his army is free to move around with him, and may leave the borders of his nation. It cannot enter the borders of another nation until his own nation is "At War".

Correct.

I am assuming that since he can never move without his army, a NANC Sovereign's leadership is effectively meaningless, despite what appears on his "Awakened" character card.

I assume you mean his Level? If so, yes, it has meaning only when Awakened.

* - Awakened: once the Sovereign is Awakened, the miniature is replaced by the silver one in the indicated map region, and the player gets the Awakened character card. He can never be corrupted again. At this point, the Sovereign is a Companion in terms of all game rules. He is free to leave on his own, and can join and leave other armies regardless of the presence of his own nation's units. He is a Companion for all card effects, and if the FP player spends a character die, the Awakened Sovereign is able to make solo or group journeys with the other FP Companions.

* - Corrupted: the black corruption ring is added to the model, which is placed back in the starting region. He can never be Awakened. From this point onward the Corrupted Sovereign does not move, or contribute anything positive to his nation. He remains fixed in place until another Companion with the appropriate icon visits to put him out of his misery using a character die.

Correct.

Furthermore, the new "Aid in Time of Need" event card states "...Then, choose one NANC Sovereign in the same region as a Companion, and awaken him in that region". I assume that the assisting Companion does not require the icon in this case?

Correct.

* - Could Boromir, Captain General of Gondor (LoME), now awaken Denethor with this card?
* - Could Awakened Brand awaken Thranduil with this card?
* - Theoretically, if you moved NANC Theoden to Lorien, could Galadriel (LoME) awaken him with this card?

Yes to all.
