As somebody just coming to this review, I think it works great as the back-half to a longer review, but maybe isn't the best foot forward on its own.

Your complaints are interesting, but I'm left wondering what this adds to the gameplay, as the only commentary I saw in regards to that amounted to a card count (36 new cards, eh?). Maybe I missed some expository detail, but some commentary as to how similar or different those cards were to the originals would have been nice. Is this a "more of the same" expansion, or does it take the game into new directions at all?
