It helps to talk the game over with your opponents. What could have been done to prevent situation X, does anyone have a suggestion how to deal wth Y, that sort of thing. Remember that you not only need to know your own faction, you need to know the others too, so you can harm them with the least amount of effort which also keeping down the others. Or not: sometimes you must even help a faction gain some prominence because yet another faction will be unstoppable later on without their help.
It may not be enough in the end to make you like the game, but at least it'll give you all pointers to work with in the next attempt. That cannot ever be A Bad Thing™.
