Thread: Warband: Against the Darkness:: General:: Playtester questions regarding diversity of game strategy

Hello,

I think Warband looks interesting, but I had two concerns from the videos I watched. I was hoping playtesters (those not involved in the design process or who were paid to preview) could chime in.:

1) Does the predictable rate of player board improvements restrict the strategies players can employ? In Hansa Teutonica, which has a similar idea, players must choose between scoring quickly and player board improvements that create a stronger engine for late game surges.

2) Do the player powers unduly direct your strategy?

I guess what both questions are asking is whether there is enough room to explore different strategies or do the mechanisms make the game more of a tactical back and forth, since there doesn't seem to be the choice between engine building and racing for points (I could very well be wrong on this assessment. I have not played).

Thanks!
Todd
