I've played the game a lot, and taught it probably close to 100 times. The base game really doesn't need much more... rather than buying expansions, I'd buy a new game for variety.

Man, I disagree. For one thing, Crossroads has some pretty cool abilities; I love the ship and wagon pieces. And the setup time isn't noticeably increased. I guess you have to shuffle the 6-card Task deck if you want to use Tasks? That's about it. I'd say it's faster than randomizing the Nomad tiles for the first expansions.
I agree with LastFootnote. I really like Crossroads, ship & wagon pieces, etc. I don't play it without the Crossroads expansion.
