If you always put everything in the zero box then you will always take everything out as you won't have anything elsewhere. This means that you won't ever be able to buy any cards. Also if you take three cubes one of them will be wasted as you can only every use two. If you just take metals you will have no cubes and have to go looting and thus miss out on end game influence. In the games I have played people generally put cubes in the two or three point box and get two or three really good turns during the game. They also almost never go looting leading to a bonus for adjacent camps often near the maximium for one or two players.

You are taking everything out of one box on each turn aren't you?
